British Safety Council Qualifications
British Safety Council has withdrawn its regulated qualifications.
Some of our Level 2 qualifications have been replaced with new Certificate qualifications with fully online learning and online assessment. Details of these new qualifications can be found here.
International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
Existing learners who need to re-sit examinations or re-submit assignments may do so until 7 July 2023.
No examinations will be offered after 7 July 2023. No assignments will be accepted after 7 July 2023.
International Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health
Existing learners who need to re-sit examinations may do so until 7 July 2023.
No examinations will be offered after 7 July 2023.
British Safety Council retains learner data for a period of 7 years from the date on which the learner was awarded a qualification.
Learners who have achieved a qualification within the last 7 years, and have mislaid their qualification certificate, may request a replacement certificate. Details of this process can be found in the replacement certificate policy.
Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
British Safety Council is no longer offering this qualification. Candidates wishing to sit this qualification must do so with an alternative awarding organisation.
Why did we withdraw this qualification?
Despite our best endeavours, we are disappointed to note the significant level of malpractice and criminal activity related to qualifications that lead to the CSCS card in the marketplace, such as the Level 1 in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. The associated costs of investigating malpractice and the level of compliance which we deem necessary to maintain public confidence in the qualification and safeguard public safety have risen significantly. Additionally, as a charity, we do not have the means or powers of a Law Enforcement Authority. We are choosing instead to focus on other charitable activities that seek to address risks to public and individuals’ safety.
Is my qualification still valid?
Yes. Your qualification does not expire. The withdrawal simply means that we will no longer offer this qualification to new learners. Please note that due to a continued increase in fraudulent claims, CSCS has reviewed its scheme entry criteria and is no longer accepting British Safety Council Level 1 certificates awarded prior to February 2017. Further details for those affected on how to gain a CSCS card can be found on the CSCS website (British Safety Council certificates not accepted for Labourer cards | Official CSCS Website). Certificates awarded after February 2017 can continue to be used to apply for a CSCS card. Please note that CSCS may change the eligibility criteria of their scheme at any time so please check requirements on their website.
We will continue to verify qualification certificates to CSCS until June 2027 (seven years from the qualification withdrawal date of June 2020).
